Liaison - Professional Bodies (SAIMM,SANCOT, SAICE,SAIEG, ECSA)
The purpose of my portfolio is to maintain communication and good relationships with sister organizations and institutions. This involves identifying synergies between SANIRE and the other organizations, and exchanging information about courses and conferences of interest to SANIRE members and the other organizations. I will also assist with growth and development of the newly formed Surface Mining Branch. I am also an elected member of the SAIMM Council and attend the SANCOT meetings. I will maintain contact with the SAICE (Geotechnical division) and the SAIEG. My goal is to encourage interaction and discussion between SANIRE Members and the members of other organizations with similar interests.

Jacques Lucas
ISRM Liaison
SANIRE is the local branch of the International Society of Rock Mechanics (ISRM) and all members of SANIRE are therefore also members of the ISRM. This is an important association as we do not work in a vacuum and interaction with international experts are essential to ensure that we remain at the cutting edge of rock engineering knowledge. My objective over the next two years is to create a greater awareness of the ISRM activities amongst SANIRE members and to maximize the benefits we can obtain from the ISRM.

As the treasurer, I am the custodian of SANIRE’s financial assets and accountable to members. During my term of office, I will assist SANIRE in ensuring that financial controls are maintained and that sufficient funds are available to achieve the goals set by Council and members, in particular with respect to education, certification and communication.
Mine seismology
As holder of the mine seismology portfolio, I will continue to inform council of technical developments in this field and provide advice and assistance where required.
